Product Details

A superb example of a Welsh oak dresser dating from the mid to late 19th century. The base contains a central drawer with decorative shaped frieze above a set back 'dog kennel'. This is flanked by two cupboards with shelved interiors. The upper section has open central shelves between glazed cupboards. The shelves have recessed grooves for plates and hanging hooks whilst the cupboards have removable shelves and further hanging hooks. It stands on large turned bun feet.

It is an excellent quality piece and the oak has a wonderful warm colour and patina. The drawer is stamped with the maker's name "Harris. Carmarthen" and there are beautiful carved acorn and oak leaf details on the cupboard doors. As was traditional in Wales, the back boards and the interior of the cupboards have been painted in an attractive blue colour.

It is in excellent condition throughout and displays beautifully. It is not without some signs of age and use and there are some minor old knocks and marks and signs of wear on the painted finish in places but nothing untoward or detrimental. There are no major damages, the drawer opens smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There are some signs of historic worm in the back boards which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. The dresser has been given a thorough clean and gentle polish and is ready for use.
