A large pine box Settle dating from the mid 19th century and most likely originating from Wales. It has a panelled back with beautifully shaped arms and a panelled base. It has a thick pine seat which lifts up to reveal a useful storage space below. The rear of the settle still has its original darker stained finish while the front has been stripped to a warmer colour whilst still retaining a lovely patina.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are of course signs of age and use, small knocks and marks but nothing detrimental. There have been some old repairs and one arm has been changed at some point in its life but it still displays well and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of historic worm which has all been treated as a precaution and hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. The whole piece has been cleaned and given a gentle polish and is ready for use.
