Product Details

A good example of an early to mid 19th Century campaign writing slope. It is made of solid mahogany rosewood with brass strapped edges, inset military brass carrying handles and matching brass escutcheon and cartouche.

Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below and there is also a long drawer on the side of the box which pulls out when a brass pin is lifted. There is also a small brass arm which allows the top of the box to be held in place at an angle and a book rest, stored under one section, to be placed in two small holes and used as a reading stand.

It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use, some marks, light knocks and minor old splits but no major damages and it displays beautifully. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
