A superb example of an ebonised French jewellery box dating from the mid to late 19th century. It is ornately decorated with gilt metal mounts, inset stones and a central cartouche with a painted portrait of a female. It stands on 4 ball feet. Inside the box has been beautifully relined with blue silk and it has a lift out fitted tray. It comes with a working key.
It is in very good condition for its age and the interior is clean and tidy. There are a few small knocks and marks around the outside of the box and some general signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
