A superb example of an early 19th Century writing slope. It is made of rosewood with wonderful intricate brass inlay. Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely blue/green writing surface with a tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell, a pen tray and there are two sloped compartments. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small drawers which springs open when a piece of wood on the far side of the box is pulled. It comes with its original working key.
It is in excellent condition for its age and displays beautifully. There are no major damages to the wood exterior, just some small knocks and minor signs of age and use but nothing detrimental.
