A lovely mahjong set dating from the mid 20th Century, contained within its original wooden box. The pieces are made from plastic, (made to simulate bone) and bamboo, joined together with a nicely cut dovetail joint. There is a complete set of 144 tiles which measure approx 25mm x 18mm x 14mm high. There are also 4 small dice and a large quantity of counting sticks.
The components of the game are kept in a specially made wooden box with four drawers for the tiles and a deeper drawer at the bottom for the sticks. The box measures approx 8 1/2" (22cm) long x 6 1/2" (16cm) deep x 7 1/2" (19cm) high.
The whole set is in very good condition for its age. There are some light signs of wear and use but nothing detrimental and the joints on the pieces are in good tight order and the set is certainly very usable.
