Good quality 4-person croquet set manufactured by John Jaques in the mid to late 20th Century. The set is contained within its original pine box with metal strapping and rope handles and the original paper 'Jaques' label under the lid.
The set comes with 4 wooden croquet mallets, all stamped 'Jaques, London'. To complete the set there are 4 balls in the standard colours, six metal hoops - one with a red top and one with a blue top - a post with coloured bands indicating the order of play and a mallet for bashing in the hoops. The mallet looks like a later addition to the set but a very useful one!
The set is in excellent condition and looks barely used. The balls and mallets still have their plastic bag coverings. There are some marks and signs of light use on the balls and the ends of the mallets and patches of rust on some of the hoops but nothing major. The whole set is definitely very usable.
The box is sturdy and in good overall condition. There are some age related marks and some small old stains on the top and the paper label is worn. Inside the box is clean and tidy and overall it displays very nicely.
It is a standard adult size set with the mallets being 3ft long. The box is 44" long by 10" deep and 8" tall.
