Beautiful vintage corkscrew with a hand-carved handle in the form of a dog's head with inset glass eyes. The screw is metal and is tarnished in places but still perfectly usable. I would hazard a guess that the dog is a Labrador or similar. It has been superbly well carved out of a single piece of wood and many of the original carving strokes are still visible in the patina of the wood.
I believe it dates from the early 20th Century. It has certainly been well used and well loved. It is in good original condition - the only point to note is that there is a small split in the wood on the back of his head (see last photo). I don't think it detracts from the overall appeal and it certainly doesn't detract from its ability to display beautifully or its functionality.
