A lovely high quality mahjong set dating from the early to mid 20th Century, contained within its original case. The pieces are made from bone and bamboo with the symbols and pictures finely carved into the bone. It is a high quality set with a good proportion of bone, approximately 40% bone to 60% bamboo, joined with a nicely cut dovetail joint. There is a complete set of 144 tiles plus a further 4 spare blank tiles and 4 joker tiles. The tiles measure approx 24mm x 18mm x 11mm high. There are also 4 bone dice in a small box, 4 season discs and many dozens of sticks.
The components of the game are kept in a specially made wooden box with sliding lid. The box measures approx 10 1/2" (27cm) long x 6 1/2" (16cm) wide x 2" (5cm) high. The sticks need to be loose to fit in the box with the tiles.
The whole set is in very good condition for its age. It is not new and has been used so please don't buy it expecting it to be brand new. There are general light signs of wear and use and some discolouration on the pieces. The joints on the pieces are in good tight order and are very usable with only a few very small splits.
The box is strong and sturdy. There are minor signs of age and wear but nothing detrimental and it displays nicely.
