Victorian Walnut Writing Slope with Secret Drawers
A beautiful Victorian walnut writing slope with brass corners, brass strapping and a matching brass shield shaped cartouche and escutcheon.
Inside, the box is fitted with a leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a brass topped glass inkwell and a pen tray next to a small stamp slope. There is a secret compartment with 2 small hidden drawers below the leather surface that springs open by lifting a piece of wood next to the inkwell. The key to the outer lock is missing but we do have a working key that locks the inside slope.
The box is in very good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. The leather writing surface is in good order and the box is very usable. There are some minor old knocks and marks around the outside of the box and some minor shrinkage splits but nothing detrimental and overall it displays beautifully.
