A lovely antique writing slope dating from the late 19th Century. The exterior is walnut with tunbridge style geometric inlaid borders and a brass cartouche.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely coral coloured leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells and there is a pen tray and two other compartments. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small drawers which springs open when a piece of wood next to the inkwell is lifted. It also comes with its original working key.
It is in excellent condition for its age and displays beautifully. There are no major damages to the wood exterior, just some small knocks, old shrinkage splits and minor signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The inkwells have been replaced at some point but suit the box well and the interior is clean and tidy.
