Victorian Thornton Pickard Ruby Plate Camera
A good example of a half plate folding field camera, by Thornton Pickard Manufacturing Company, dating from the early 20th Century. It comes with lens and lens cap, the lens is a Thornton-Pickard 'Altrincham' 6 1/2 x 4 3/4 Ruby Rapid Rectilinear.
The camera has a mahogany body with black tapered leather bellows and brass fittings and a leather handle on top of case. Ground glass hinged focusing screen at the rear and brass viewfinder. The camera front folds down and the body and bellows extend along a track before being locked in place. The camera is designed for hand use or it can be mounted on a tripod and has a circular tripod support in the base of the camera.
Original maker's plaque on the side "Patent Thornton-Pickard 'Ruby' Camera".
The camera comes in its original protective carrying case which also comes with 3 Thornton-Pickard plate holders.
Cosmetically, the camera is in good condition for its age and is a beautiful decorative item. The mahogany has a lovely patina with no major damages. There are a few marks and knocks and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The bellows are in good condition with no visible holes or damage. Functionally, the camera is untested and is being sold as seen.
