A good example of a large English oak silver chest dating from the mid 19th Century. It is covered in iron strapping on the corners and edges with a large closing latch and iron carrying handles.
The interior of the box is now empty but has retained its vellum lining in the lid.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy with a beautiful rich patina. There are signs of age and use, some chips and knocks, a few old shrinkage splits and some small losses and tears to the strapping but no major damages. There has been some additional strapping added to repair some old shrinkage splits and there are some signs of historic woodworm which has all been treated as a precaution. The interior is generally clean and tidy and the whole box has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
