A fine example of a large sterling silver trophy with twin handles and a round footed base. It is engraved for the " National Exhibition of Sporting & Other Dogs. Birmingham 1864. Class 23. The First Prize Awarded to Mr Thomas Smith for his Pointer Dog Carlo ". The cup is a good quality piece and very decorative with beautiful floral handles and a raised panel of sporting dogs on the reverse of the cup.

It is clearly hallmarked for Birmingham, 1864 and the makers Elkington & Co. It weighs approximately 539g.

It is in good condition for its age. There are no major damages and it displays beautifully. There are some light surface marks and a few small dinks and a small mark on the top of one handle (see photo) but nothing detrimental and it displays well. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
