Product Details

A superb example of a Victorian writing slope. It is made of rosewood with the most beautiful mother of pearl inlaid decoration in swirling floral and leaf patterns. It has flush carrying handles and a raised escutcheon.

It is excellent quality and has a working Bramah lock and key which is stamped "VR Bramah Patent". The box is most unusual that it's fittings are sterling silver, rather than the usual silver or nickel plated. The handles, lock and hinges have been tested and are showing a reasonable grade silver on an acid test.

Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely green leather writing surface with a silver tooled edge to match the fittings. It comes with a glass inkwell with brass screw tops and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below. There are also two small concealed drawers which are revealed when a piece of wood below the pen tray is pressed to release the spring holding the cover.

It is in excellent condition for its age. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks and light knocks but there are no major damages and it displays beautifully.
