Product Details

A good example of a Victorian writing slope dating from the mid 19th Century. It is made of rosewood with a beautiful patina and comes with a working key.

The box is fitted with a good quality blue leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of blue glass inkwells with hinged brass tops and its original pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the writing surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below. There is a nice hand written inscription below one surface dated May 26th 1846.

The box is in very good condition for its age. There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and light scuffs and minor marks but nothing untoward or detrimental. The leather writing surface is in excellent order and the interior is generally clean and tidy. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
