A good example of a Victorian writing slope dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of rosewood with a lovely patina and it has a mother of pearl inlaid escutcheon and matching cartouche.
The box is fitted with a good quality green leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of brass topped glass inkwells and its original pen tray. Both top and bottom sections of the writing surface lift up to reveal extra storage space below.
The box is in good condition for its age with a beautiful patina. There are some general signs of age and use, some knocks and light scuffs and minor marks but nothing untoward or detrimental. It does not come with a key.
