A superb example of an antique writing slope dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of rosewood with the most wonderful grain and colour and an inlaid mother of pearl border with a central cartouche and matching escutcheon. It also has two inlaid flush brass carrying handles on the sides.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely maroon leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell with brass top and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below.
It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks but there are no major damages and it displays beautifully.
