A good example of an early 19th Century writing slope. It is made of rosewood with wonderful intricate brass inlay. Inside, the box is fitted with a dark maroon leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It also comes with a pair of glass inkwells with brass tops. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small sections which springs open when a piece of wood next to the inkwell is lifted.
It is in good condition for its age and displays well. There are signs of age and use, some old repairs and a small brass piece is missing in one corner but there are no major damages to the wood exterior. It does not come with a key. The interior is generally clean and tidy and the leather is in good order.
