A superb example of an antique writing slope dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of rosewood with the most wonderful grain and colour and an inlaid mother of pearl border of with central cartouche and shield shaped escutcheon. It also has two inlaid flush brass carrying handles on the sides.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely red leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a glass inkwell with brass top and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below. There are also two small secret drawers which spring open when a piece of wood by the inkwell is pushed.
It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks but there are no major damages and it displays beautifully. There is some wear to the writing surface, particularly along the crease but it is such a lovely example that we have chosen to leave the original rather than replace it.
