A fine example of a beautiful Victorian Rosewood box. It was likely to have once been used as a vanity box containing pots, and other accoutrements but it can now be used to store all manner of trinkets or jewellery. The outer of the box is made of the finest quality rosewood with inlaid brass decorations, a brass cartouche and brass shield shaped escutcheon.
Inside the box the lid is lined with red leather and there are two brass catches holding a small mirror in place. There are various fitted sections, some with wooden lids and the top tray lifts out to reveal a lower storage compartment. There is also one lidded glass pot and two bottles with matching glass stoppers.
It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some minor signs of age and use, some wear to the leather interior and the mirror plate has worn but overall the piece displays beautifully. It has been cleaned, waxed and the brass has been lightly polished and it is ready for use.
