A superb adjustable reading or music stand dating from the late 19th Century with two stands and a small central table most likely for a candle or lamp. It stands on an ornate heavy cast iron base with lions paw feet and large brass castors. The table and stands are made of mahogany while the base is heavy cast iron and the arms are brass.
It is excellent quality and very well made. Each part of the stand is adjustable - the height of the table, the position of the stands and the angle of the rests. The original brass maker's badge is still present on the back of the rests - "J.Carter North's Patent. 64 New Cavendish St. Portland Place. London. W"
It is in excellent condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. All the parts move well and there are no major damages. There are of course signs of age and use but nothing detrimental.
