A good 4ft Victorian oak desk dating from the late 19th Century. It has an arrangement of 9 drawers around a central kneehole. Each drawer has its original turned wooden knobs and each pedestal has a plinth base with castors below. The top of the desk has a good quality green leather writing surface with a gold tooled edge.
It is a good quality piece with rounded corners and molding that continues on all 4 sides of the desk, meaning the back looks nicely finished so it could be used as a freestanding piece as well as against a wall. The drawer fronts have used quarter-sawn oak which has given a wonderful colour and grain.
The desk is in good condition for its age and has been well looked after. It has a lovely patina and the drawers open well. The inside of the drawers are generally clean and tidy with just some minor ink stains. There are some normal signs of age and use, some minor knocks and light surface marks and a few small repaired chips but nothing detrimental. The desk has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
