A lovely oak tabletop correspondence box dating from the late 19th Century. It has two letter slots on the top beside ivorine labels "Unanswered" and "Answered". It comes with a working key and inside it is divided into two sections to correspond with the different slots.
It is an excellent quality piece and has a brass retailer's plaque inside, engraved "Briggs, 27 Piccadilly, London".
It is in good original condition and the oak has developed a lovely warm patina. There are some general signs of age and use but no major damages or anything detrimental and it displays well. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
