A good example of a Victorian mesh fire guard dating from the mid to late 19th century. It has a curved brass top rail and wire mesh on a metal frame. It is often known as a nursery guard due to its high sides that completely surround the fire and there are small hoop brackets on each side which would have been used to fix it in place.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are signs of age and use, some slight stretching to the mesh in places and some light marks and knocks on the brass but no major damages or losses and it displays well. It has been cleaned and lightly polished and is ready for use.
