Product Details

A superb example of a mid 19th Century 'double fold' writing slope. It is made of rich mahogany with a brass shield shaped cartouche and it comes with a working key.

Inside, the lid of the box is fitted with various compartments for storing letters or envelopes. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells and there is a stamp slope and a pen tray. The interior surface folds out further to reveal a large sloped writing surface covered in a deep red leather with gilt tooling. Below the writing surface is a secret compartment hiding three small drawers and there is a additional side drawer which opens when a brass rod is lifted.

It is in very good condition for its age. There are no major damages to the wood exterior, just some small knocks and minor signs of age and use and a few small repairs but nothing detrimental and overall it still displays well. The box is generally clean and tidy inside.
