Product Details

A superb mahogany Wellington Chest dating from the mid 19th Century. It is a well made piece of exceptional quality with an overhanging top and a plinth base. It is a traditional design with 6 graduated drawers flanked by square pillars. The right hand pillar is hinged and locks the drawers in place when closed. Drawers two and three enclose a fitted secretaire and the front hinges down to reveal a series of small satinwood drawers around two central pigeon holes. The writing surface has an inset maroon leather writing surface with a gilt tooled edge.

It is in excellent condition and displays well with a lovely rich patina. It has been sympathetically restored and gently polished. There are signs of age and use and some minor marks and scuffs around the base and a few surface marks and light scratches on the top. There are a couple of old repairs to chips on the edges of drawers and around the base and a small chip on one knob but nothing detrimental or untoward. There is some wear along the crease of the leather writing surface but otherwise the interior is in good order. T he drawers are generally clean and tidy and all open smoothly and i t comes with a working key.
