A lovely Victorian adjustable reading table dating from the mid 19th Century. The table is supported by a large baluster column standing on a quatrefoil base with bun feet terminating in small brass castors. The table has two adjustable reading stands on easel backs with removable book rests, one also has brass fingers. The height of the table is adjustable and it ratchets smoothly up and down, held in place with a brass pin. The table also moves side to side, allowing for it to be placed over a bed or chair.
The quality is absolutely superb and it is stamped for the maker "WARD. 246 Tottenham Ct Rd. London".
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. All the parts move well and the mahogany has a wonderful rich patina. There are some minor signs of age and use, some surface marks and small knocks around the base but nothing detrimental. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
