Product Details

A superb adjustable duet reading table dating from the mid 19th Century. The table stands on a large baluster column on a quatrefoil base with bun feet terminating in small brass castors. The table has two adjustable reading stands on easel backs and book rests with brass fingers. The height of the table is adjustable and it ratchets smoothly up and down, held in place with a wooden peg. The table also adjusts side to side, allowing for it to be placed over a bed.

The quality is absolutely superb and the design is in the manner of Gillows with the brass castors stamped "Cope Patent". It is in excellent condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. All the parts move well and the mahogany has a wonderful rich patina. There are some minor signs of age and use, some surface marks and small chips around the base but nothing detrimental. There is a very slight lift on one of the reading supports which means it does not lie completely flat but it doesn't concern us and doesn't affect the piece functionally or aesthetically.
