A large mahogany framed Cheval mirror dating from the mid 19th Century. The mirror has an arched mahogany frame, supported by elegant scrolling arms. It stands on a beautiful serpentine curved base with splayed scrolling feet and its original castors. The castors are stamped "C&C Patent" for Cope & Collinson, makers of the finest hardware and used by only the top makers of the time.
The mirror is adjustable and moves back and forth on ball catch brackets. It has its original antique mirror plate with some minor spots of wear and foxing.
It is in good condition for its age and is strong and sturdy. There are some old small holes where additional later fixing brackets have been removed on the sides of the arms, difficult to see when the mirror is in place. There are signs of age and use, some minor marks and knocks but nothing detrimental and the wood has developed a beautiful patina.
