A good example of a mid 19th Century campaign writing slope. It is made of mahogany with brass strapped edges, inset military brass carrying handles and matching brass escutcheon and cartouche.
Inside, the box is fitted with a red velvet writing surface with a tooled edge. It also has a pen tray and a lidded compartment. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below and there is also a long drawer on the side of the box which pulls out when a brass pin is lifted. There is also a small brass arm which allows the top of the box to be held in place at an angle.
There are also three concealed drawers below the front surface that spring open when a small button below the pen tray is pushed.
It is in good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There are signs of age and use, some marks and light knocks but no major damages and it displays beautifully. It has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
