A beautiful mahogany chest of drawers dating from the mid 19th Century. Excellent quality and very well made with a lovely rich patina and an attractive bow-front. It is a good large size and offers plenty of storage with two short over three long drawers. The drawers have their original turned knobs and are flanked by twisted columns. The chest stands on sweeping bracket feet with a pretty shaped apron below the drawers.
It is in good condition for its age. The drawers open well, having had their runners recently replaced or repaired, and are generally clean and tidy inside. There are some remains of the original penny paper linings but most has been removed. There are the usual small signs of wear, some minor marks and knocks and some repairs to chips in the veneer around the drawers but nothing detrimental. There have been some repairs to the feet but the chest is strong and sturdy. They have been cleaned and gently waxed and are ready for use.
