Product Details

A superb leather covered writing box dating from the late 19th century. The box has an inset brass carrying handle on the top and there is a brass key escutcheon on the front of the box. It comes with a working key.

It opens to reveal two writing pads as well as a pen tray and a glass inkwell. There are letter racks and pen holders below the lid and the bottom part of the box folds out again to provide a sloped writing surface. Both sections here lift up to provide additional storage compartments.
The box is in very good condition for its age. The leather is in good order with a little bit of wear along the edges and seams and a small repair on the top (see photo) but no major damages or marks and it has a lovely patina. Inside, it is generally clean and tidy with a few small marks and signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. Overall the box displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
