Product Details

A superb leather covered writing box dating from the mid to late 19th century. The box has an inset brass carrying handle on the top and there is a brass key escutcheon on the front of the box. It comes with its original working key for the Bramah style push lock.

The lid opens to reveal a storage section under the lid, beautifully lined with an exotic wood similar to Coromandel. There is a lift up cover on the bottom part of the box which reveals two writing pads. The box further folds out to reveal another storage section, a pen tray and glass inkwell and it stands up to form a fitted letter rack with pen holders. The quality is absolutely superb and the whole interior of the box is lined in the same striking exotic wood as the lid.

The box is in very good condition for its age. We believe the outer leather has been replaced at some point but it displays very well. There are some minor signs of age and use, a few small marks and knocks but no major damages or anything detrimental. Inside, it is generally clean and tidy and overall the box displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
