Product Details

Circa 1890

A lovely leather covered writing box dating to the late 19th century. The domed wooden box is covered in a deep red embossed leather with an inset brass handle on the top and there is a brass key escutcheon on the front of the box.
The box opens to reveal three writing pads as well as a pen tray, stamp slops and the original glass inkwell all in the top part of the box. The lid folds down to provide a writing surface and provides a useful storage section behind this for paper etc. The bottom part of the box folds upwards to reveal a row of letter or document holders and a further large storage section.
Approximate Measurements (closed):
Width : 14" (36cm)
Height : 5 1/2" (14cm)
Depth : 10" (26cm)
The box is in good condition for its age. It has been well used and the leather has worn over time and has some stains, wear and minor losses which has created a wonderful authentic worn patina. The lock works and comes with its original key. Inside, it is generally clean and tidy with a few small marks and signs of use but nothing detrimental. Overall the box displays very well and is certainly a nice usable item.
