A beautiful burr walnut jewellery box with marquetry and mother of pearl inlaid detail, dating from the mid to late 19th Century. It is a good quality piece with a domed top and it comes with a working key. Most likely to have once been a sewing or vanity box, it has now been relined with a beautiful fitted tray with maroon silk lining and marbled paper. The tray lifts out to reveal an additional lined storage area below.
It is in good condition for its age and has been very well made and well looked after. There are some signs of age and use, a few minor marks and knocks and a small shrinkage split in the side but nothing detrimental and overall the piece displays beautifully. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
