Product Details

An attractive and good quality 'Smoker's Bow' or 'Captain's' armchair dating from the late 19th Century. It has a comfortable wide and deep elm seat with broad arms supported by turned spindles. The chair stands on tapering ring turned legs joined by a double stretcher.

It is stamped on the rear of the seat "Glenister Maker Wycombe" and it also has the VR cypher for Queen Victoria. The Thomas Glenister Company in High Wycombe were well established makers of the highest quality chairs.

It is approximately 31” (79 cm) high and it is 24 1/2” (62 cm) wide across the arms. The seat is approximately 18” (46 cm) deep and 17 3/4” (45 cm) high.

It is in good condition for its age. It has developed a nice aged patina where the finish has worn attractively over the years and it is a strong and sturdy chair. The chair is not without a few marks and signs of age and use but no major damages and nothing detrimental. The grain is wonderful and it displays very nicely.
