A lovely antique tabletop Wellington style chest dating from the late 19th Century. It is an excellent quality piece with its original ebonised finish with gilded details and brass handles. It stands on brass ball feet and it comes with its original working key.
This particular chest was originally used to store a collection of butterflies. Each drawer is numbered 1-8 and has its original hinged glass cover to preserve the specimens.

It is in good condition for its age and displays very nicely. There are signs of age and use, it has picked up a few minor knocks and scuffs over the years and there is an old shrinkage split in the back but no major damages or anything detrimental. The drawers all open and close smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside with a few small stains and marks. A couple of the hinges on the glass covers have been replaced but they all open easily.
