A beautiful antique writing slope made of the finest Coromandel wood with mother of pearl stringing and matching mother of pearl cartouche and escutcheon. The cartouche is engraved "presented to Miss Waterson, by the friends and children of the Tattenhall National Schools. 20 March 1856".
T he interior of the box is fitted with a good quality dark green leather writing surface with gold tooling. There is a removable pen, a small lidded section and an inkwell. The box also comes with a working key.
The box is excellent quality and is in good condition for its age. It has been lightly cleaned and polished and it displays very well inside and out. There are some minor chips and shrinkage splits around the exterior of the box and there have been some repairs to the veneer on the back but overall it displays well.
