A lovely Chinoiserie sewing cabinet dating from the late 19th Century. It is decorated on all sides with a beautiful painted and gilded Chinoiserie design on a black ground. The top hinges open to reveal a silk lined interior and there is also a small drawer on the front.
The table stands on simple square legs with fretwork carved gilt brackets. It is a lovely small size, perfect for use as a bedside cabinet as well as a sewing cabinet.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy. There are some signs of age and use and some losses and wear to the painted finish in places but overall it has a lovely patina. There are some small knocks and marks and an old shrinkage split in the top (see photo) but no major damages or anything detrimental. The interior is generally clean and tidy throughout and the drawer opens smoothly. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
