Product Details

A superb example of a mid 19th Century 'double fold' writing slope. It is made of beautiful burr walnut with a mother of pearl shield shaped cartouche and escutcheon and it comes with a working key.

Inside, the lid of the box is fitted with various compartments for storing letters or envelopes. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells and there is a stamp slope and a pen tray. It has a lovely maroon leather writing surface with gilt edge which folds out again to a larger sloped writing surface with matching leather. Both sections of the writing surface lift up to provide additional storage below.

It is in very good condition for its age. There are no major damages to the wood exterior and it has a beautiful patina. There are signs of age and use, some small knocks and marks but nothing detrimental and overall it displays well. The box is generally clean and tidy inside with some wear on the leather surfaces but nothing untoward.
