A superb example of an antique writing slope dating from the late 19th Century. It is made of burr walnut with the most wonderful grain and colour and an inlaid brass cartouche and matching escutcheon.
Inside, the box is fitted with a lovely deep blue/purple velvet writing surface with a gilt tooled edge. It comes with a pair of glass inkwells with brass tops and a pen tray. The top and bottom section of the writing surface lift up to give extra storage space below.
It is in very good condition for its age and it comes with a working key. There is some wear on the writing surface, particularly along the crease and there are signs of age and use around the box, some marks and light knocks but there are no major damages and it displays beautifully.
