Product Details

A beautiful antique stationery cabinet dating from the mid 19th Century. It is made of the finest burr walnut with brass banding on the edges and a military style recessed brass handle on the door. It is a particularly large size and the quality is second to none.

The sloping front opens out to reveal a series of racks for holding papers and letters. There is also a pen tray and two top quality original glass inkwells and below this there is a large drawer that pulls out. One door has a carved fretwork holder and the other has small brass pins which would have supported an elastic framework for holding papers and it also has two brass fingers for holding back documents.

It is in good condition throughout and although it has been used it has been well looked after over the years. There are a few small knocks and marks around the outside, some minor shrinkage splits and general signs of age and use but nothing detrimental. The doors have slightly warped over time but it hasn't affected the piece structurally or aesthetically. It does not come with a key. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
