A superb Victorian roll top desk of grand proportions with stunning Burr Walnut fronts. The desk has a rised gallery aroud the top and the cylinder front opens to reveal a fitted interior with a series of pigeon holes and small drawers, each with its original turned knob. There is a large three section writing surface covered with green tooled leather. The middle compartment lifts up and can be fixed at a slope for ease of writing. The whole writing surface also pulls forward.
The desk stands on two large pedestals with Burr Walnut drawer fronts and mahogany sides, both with three drawers. It rests on a set of brass castors which allows it to be moved.
The whole piece is superb quality and displays beautifully. The interior is clean and tidy and all the drawers open well. Every knob is original and the roll top runs smoothly and firmly.
It is not without some signs of age and use. There are some general knocks and small scuffs around the base of the desk as well as some minor veneer chips but no major damages or anything detrimental. The desk has been cleaned and given a light wax and polish to preserve its wonderful patina.
