A lovely Victorian Davenport made of the finest Burr Walnut. It has a sloped front with tooled leather writing surface which opens to a birds eye maple interior. There is a small cupboard on top with a pretty fretwork gallery. The cupboard opens to a fitted interior with a series of small pigeon holes, a pen tray and an inkwell. There is a large cupboard door on one side which opens to reveal four birds eye maple drawers with flush brass handles.
The davenport is excellent quality with nicely inlaid detail and working keys for the cupboards. It stands on small castors.
It is in good condition for its age. It has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is generally clean and tidy. There are some signs of age and use, some knocks and marks, a few small chips, minor shrinkage splits and some wear to the leather surface but no major damages and nothing detrimental. It has been cleaned and gently polished and is ready for use.
