A superb Victorian Davenport made of the finest Burr Walnut. It has a sloped front with tooled leather writing surface, four drawers to one side and four dummy drawers to the other. It has a small top section which lifts up to reveal a fitted interior with an inkwell and various other sections for papers and stationery. The sloped front lifts up to reveal a beautiful interior veneered with maple and fitted with two dummy drawers and two real drawers. The front has a beautifully inlaid border and there is further inlay around the key hole. It has two shaped carved supports and rests on its original turned feet with ceramic castors below.
The quality and condition are excellent and the walnut has developed a wonderful patina. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is clean and tidy with just a few old ink stains in the drawers. There are no major damages to the exterior but some small signs of age, minor marks, a few old chips and minor splits but nothing detrimental and overall it is a lovely sturdy piece of furniture. It comes with a working key to the main sloped section but we do not have any other keys.
