A superb Victorian Davenport made of the finest Burr Walnut. The davenport is beautifully inlaid with boxwood stringing and pretty decoration on the front. It has two small carved supports and stands on small turned feet. It has a sloped front with tooled leather writing surface, four drawers to one side and four dummy drawers to the other. It has a small domed top section which lifts up to reveal a fitted interior with a pen tray and various other sections for papers and stationery. The sloped front lifts up to reveal an interior fitted with four small drawers.
The quality and condition are excellent and the walnut has developed a wonderful patina. The piece has been thoroughly cleaned and gently polished and displays well. The drawers open smoothly and the interior is clean and tidy. There are no major damages to the exterior just some small signs of age, minor marks, a few old chips and splits but nothing detrimental and overall it is a lovely sturdy piece of furniture. It comes with a working key for both the small top section and the main slope.
