Product Details

A superb set of spelling tiles dating from the 19th Century contained in their original wooden box. Originally used as a teaching aid for young children learning their alphabet and spelling.

The tiles are made of bone (cow/bovine) and there are 78 in total - 3 complete sets of every letter. The tiles are double sided with the upper case letter on one side and lower case on the other. The tiles come in a mahogany box with a sliding lid and an inset plaque which reads 'Spelling Alphabet' on the top of the box.

The whole set is in excellent condition and there are no major damages to any of the tiles. There is some slight wear and discolouration on some the tiles but nothing untoward. The box is in good condition with a nice rich patina and the lid slides open easily.

Approximate Measurements :

Box : 3 1/2" (9cm) x 2 1/4" (6cm) x 1 1/2" (4cm)

Tiles : 17mm x 12mm x 3mm
