A superb example of an unusual Windsor style chair dating from the mid to late 19th century. It has a thick square seat with slender turned spindles, a wavy horizontal splat and a turned bar at the top of the arched back. Short turned arms are supported by further turned spindles. The chair stands on turned legs joined by stretchers.
It is a narrow chair of small proportions, standing approximately 33 1/2" (85cm) high, the seat is 16" (41cm) deep and 17" (43cm) high. Arm to arm the chair is 17" (43cm) wide.
It is in good original condition and is strong and sturdy with no major damages. There are signs of age and use and some marks and light scratches on the seat and around the legs but nothing detrimental. It has developed a wonderful rich patina and has been gently cleaned and polished and is ready for use.
