Product Details

A lovely country oak bureau dating from the late 18th Century. It has nice small proportions and stands on bracket feet. It has a sloped front above four drawers, each with pierced brass handles and matching escutcheons. Two pulls support the front which opens to reveal a series of small pigeon holes and drawers. There are two hidden drawers concealed behind the moulding above the end pigeon holes.

It comes with its original working key for the sloped front and this also locks the drawers as well.

It is in excellent condition for its age and the oak has developed a wonderful rich colour over the years. It has been cleaned and gently polished, retaining the original patina. The escutcheon on the sloped front has been replaced at some point but it a very close match and suits the piece well. There are general signs of age and use, some old knocks, small splits and a few small repairs but no major damages and the piece is strong and sturdy. The interior is in good condition with a few old surface marks and stains but nothing detrimental. The drawers open smoothly and are generally clean and tidy inside.
